# Approaching Meditation
If you want to experience peace, insight and expansiveness through meditation you have to be ok with letting go of what you know. We are engaging in a practice that demands us to release the ideas we have about who we are and what troubles us, so we can meet reality—as it is—beyond our interpretations and reactive leanings.
**Meditation is not problem solving.** Instead we are piercing through the very problems themselves and seeing clearly their lack of substance.
When you spend time in presence with yourself you will have your own existential realizations that will guide you to deep truth, freedom, and love.
But to really get into the work of meditation we have to accept the prerequisite that everything you think you know about yourself and the world is your own fabrication and something more true awaits when you decide to listen.
We can achieve this blank slate by observing the [[Signlessness|Signlessness]] of phenomena.
## 3 Prerequisite Mindsets for Meditation
1. **I really Don't Know**
2. **I'm willing to Investigate**
3. **I don't wish to be Different**
Having a goal in meditation is counterproductive. The goal itself that you come to meditation with is a starting point to let go from.
